Does anybody know a good source of information on Hydroponic ...

Question by tomhennesy: Does anybody know a good source of information on Hydroponic Gardening online?
I’m so sick and tired of finding links to a bunch of Marijuana related crap when looking up information on Hydroponic Gardening or the use of a Growbox.

Does anybody know any non drug related sites to gather information on these topics from?

Hi Tomhennesy!

What you are looking for does indeed exists; it just tends to become buried within google search results.

Two quality print magazines that I really enjoy are The Growing Edge and Practical Hydroponics and Greenhouses. It may be worth checking out the Growing Edge forums since they are semi-active.

Another printed magazine is Maximum Yield, though they have too many advertisements and too few articles for my taste. Fortunately all their old articles can be viewed on their website free from the many advertisements found in the printed edition.

All three of these magazines are given to hydroponic stores free of charge. These stores then decide whether or not they will give them away or sell them. From what I have been told these magazines generate their revenue more from advertisements than subscriptions.

Gardenweb has a multitude of forums about gardening and one specific to hydroponics. The members on gardenweb are very friendly and the forum is EXTREMELY active. Most of the projects discussed there are DIY and I would highly recommend networking with the people there based on your stated interests.

Finding a good video about hydroponics on youtube is easier said than done but this user has produced several quality videos that have been enjoyable and I hope he adds more in the near future.

University of Arizona at Tucson has a plant science program and biosystems engineering program with electives related to controlled environmental agriculture and hydroponics. This school was responsible for the design of the hydroponic grow chamber being used at the Admundsen-Scott South Pole Station. UA Tucson actually has a hydroponic club that meets monthly, I believe. If you are in the area stop by for a visit.

Cornell does some research in this area as well.

Try searching on google for CEAC and hydroponics within the .edu domains and you will find several schools in the US and abroad actively doing work in this field.

You are likely to find Europe, particularly the Netherlands, leading the way in terms of commercial hydroponics use and research. Arguably the world’s premiere greenhouse design firm operates out of the Netherlands.

There is also my website which is an up-and-comer but my ambition is to have a bustling website for like minded. It sounds like it accurately fits the description of what you have been looking for. If you like try registering on our forums and we can chat sometime. Currently I’m writing a review for a Milwaukee brix refractometer, a tool for measuring sugar content and the overall health in plants. Quiet the interesting little instrument its turning out to be!

Hydroponics And Your Greenhouse » Home And Garden

Introduction

One of the better solutions to grow vegetables is employing hydroponics along with a greenhouse. That way could permit you to grow vegetables all year-long, depending of curse in your area as well as the sort of greenhouse you construct.

By way of example, a greenhouse that’s completely sealed externally and heated enable you to grow vegetables year-round.

Hydroponics

Hydroponics could be the growing of plants without soil. Chemically treated water is circulated across the roots with the plants to allow them to extract the nutrients they must grow. The chemically treated water is continually circulated in a very closed loop from the plants and chemicals are periodically replenished.

Greenhouse

There are many designs of greenhouses available, but one design you’ll have to select from is when you’ll need a sealed greenhouse or an unsealed greenhouse. The gap between the two is one will enable you to grow vegetables or plants if the weather is cold. It would also be helpful in case you heated the greenhouse.

An unsealed greenhouse is subjected to environmental surroundings, that won’t help you grow plants during the cold months.

Hydroponics and also a Greenhouse

Whenever you combine hydroponics which has a greenhouse you can build a very powerful vegetable garden. I’d personally think about this a gentlemen’s method of growing your vegetables when you do not get dirt to deal with and clothes.

The most difficult once you have it and running, is always to keep the chemicals on the proper concentration and keeping the river level in the right level.

Other Benefits

There are many hidden important things about gardening with hydroponics plus a greenhouse.

* The lake found in hydroponics is 10% of the employed in traditional gardening with soil.

* The requirement for pesticides is virtually eliminated.

* The volume of area essential for a hydroponics garden far less than that essental to a conventional garden because you can grow vegetables virtually in layers.

Disadvantage

There are several disadvantages. The main one being the first cost. Establishing the hydroponics garden costs are high, but once it is working, it’s pretty cheap when comparing using soil for any garden. Another disadvantage will be the large amount of technical knowledge necessary to establish the backyard.

Conclusion

With all the high cost of vegetables and also the prediction they are going higher, the usage of hydroponics and also a greenhouse can put cash back in the bank with little effort.

The Benefit of Having a Hydroponics Greenhouse Over Indoor ...

For years, I have heard about hydroponics gardening, but I always had the question on how the vegetables can be grown in the indoors without the requirement of soil and water? How can the nutrients be enough for the growth of the plants? Hydroponics seems a combination of Chemical solutions with the plants.

These factors had made more surprised & created a curiosity to learn more about this wonder technique of growing fruits or vegetables with the soil. The major advantage of hydroponics method is yielding increased crop gain, than that of the conventional farming.

For example,
Yield of Tomatoes grown in ground is only five to ten tonnes. In greenhouse, the harvest is 60 to 300 tons! Yield of Cucumber, the figures are 7000 pounds whereas in greenhouse it is 28,000 pounds Yield of lettuce is 9000 pounds in ground & 21,000 pounds in a hydroponic greenhouse. If you have a hydroponic garden, then you can plan or read about the purchase or construction of a hydroponics greenhouse. Many people start with a kind of hydroponics with a small setup at home or in their spare basement room. But it is much easier to manage all the prerequisites for a thriving garden, if you are having a ready made hydroponic greenhouse. It is much easier to manage the requirements for lighting, ventilation and temperature in that.

Hydroponic garden courtyard Vs Hydroponic greenhouse

The growth of plants in your hydroponic gardens courtyard may not seem ideal like that in the use of Hydroponic greenhouse. A hydroponics greenhouse offers better lighting and irrigation on the configuration of the system. Not too many people will support the green house concept if they are used to the hydroponic gardens system.

You need plenty of space for the installation of irrigation systems and lighting systems that are necessary for the hydroponic gardens. Where is space available in this fast paced world cramped with houses & skyscrapers? But, if you have a hydroponic greenhouse, then you can position these systems much easier & in a smaller space too. Lighting & other arrangements come with the greenhouse, so one need not worry on those factors.

Most plants thriving under greenhouse hydroponics conditions are carefully examined. Gravel is usually seen as a means to support the root user, and a balanced mix of all nutrients regularly flow cultures in liquid form. This method is called a "subculture of irrigation."

In a large perfect hydroponic greenhouse, once the plants were planted almost the entire work is supported by automation. Sensors in the gravel decide when the plants need more solution, based on that they control the pumps accordingly.

The biggest advantage of using greenhouse hydroponics for your garden is about light. To be successful, the plants grown in hydroponics need lots of light. But remember that too much light allows with algae to thrive, and that do not want.

In a hydroponics greenhouse, sunlight is filtered and dispersed as a matter of time. You can also specify or control the number and angle of the light through the use of colors and shutters. Another advantage is that you require less energy because you do not continue to grow light all the time.

You will also find that the procedures for the supply of nutrients to the plants are easier to install and maintain if one has a hydroponics greenhouse. Of course, this is very important for the health of the plants in hydro culture.

If the plants do not grow in the soil, the pH is rather different. You will see the large fluctuations in the acidity and alkalinity, as it is water based. A greenhouse hydroponics setup is simple; the implementation of an automatic pH control keeps checking the figures.

And you need not worry about how your plants will stay warm in winter. A good greenhouse has an acceptable temperature, even in the cold days without heat. This is especially advantageous if you live in a region with lower temperature, but lot of sunshine. Fans and also vents may also be installed to help regulate the temperature in your greenhouse. Remember, control of temperature for the plants in hydroponics gardening is important.

You can build your own greenhouse hydroponics, or buy ready. Yes! You can get it in different sizes and styles. There are lots of models that also take into account the expansion of the garden in the future. Maybe it's time that you have a hydroponics greenhouse & have those favorite fruits or vegetable garden.
