Cheap Grow Lights For Your Indoor Growroom

Looking for cheap grow lights, one of my friend asked me recently if I new of a cheap hydroponic grow light that also does not take much space up, as he lives in a flat, and as it happens I was also looking for a new light for my greenhouse, that won?t take up much space ?as my glass house is only 6 foot my 8 foot? and also needed to be easily adjusted for height.

A couple of weeks past and as always me and my other half were down the local pet shop supplies, picking up some bits and bobs for are guinea pigs, and while we were their I spotted some lighting reflectors and assorted bulbs for terrariums, and that got me thinking, if these lights support lizards and the like then why wouldn?t they also work well for cheap grow lights for plants also.

The following week I bought the medium size terrarium reflector and the 150 watt bulb, the reflector is very sturdily constructed metal reflector with a heat resistant ceramic socket, which has an extra long power cord too.

Inside of the reflector is coated with a highly reflected luminous coating and comes with a large spring loaded clamp, for clipping onto summing near by, and also a attachment for hanging the lamp.

At the moment this terrarium light is inside my hydroponic grow room as I thought I?d do a little hydroponics experiment with my Aeroponic clone machine, just to see whether my fluorescent grow lighting or this new light I?d bought came out on top ?I think I my have to much time on my hands? this was only set up yesterday ?end of march? so only time will tell.

The same company also does a very small bulb, just 15 watt ?no blooming cheaper though? which I?m thinking of using in an old computer tower of mine, with maybe a miniature deep water culture system in the bottom for the plants, well I though it would be a shame to throw the tower away, so why not?.

Once I can see which of the two lights wins out I?ll stick some picks up for all to see, before moving my new light into the green house/glass house for the summer.

Garden HPS bulb Plant Grow Lights For Indoor Grow-Rooms

? Taking Care Of Your HPS Bulb

Garden HPS plant bulbs can be damaged before there even under your grow light reflector, when handling High Pressure Sodium Bulbs, cares needs to be taken as grease from your handle will more than likely be left after screwing in to that difficult ceramic E40 lamp holder.

Grease from your hands can cause hot spots on your grow plant bulb, causing them to fail earlier than you?d normally expect so remember to ware some gloves, when changing/replacing your HPS vapor Bulb.

HPS lamps get very hot, and then cool when off, its temperature deferents that can, after a while loosens that metal tablet ?its that little metal pellet that?s held at the end of the HPS bulb see above.?So when you come to screwing in, make sure you leave the HPS pellet upright, that way if it come loose your plant bulb grow lights still working ok.

And?

Careful as you go when screw HPS Bulbs in, as that E40 lamp holders really tight, as I?ve managed to break one in the past annoyingly.

? Which grow Light Reflectors Best

I?m not endorsing any particular grow light reflector but always try and buy the very best that?s around/out at the time, but I will say this:- NEVER EVER BUY bat-wing, v-reflectors angled metal grow light reflectors as there bout the worst you can buy, as the light reflected is very uneven which causes hot spots within your grow room, but not only that but can also damage your bulb with heat being reflected back, shorting your bulbs life.

Diagram of a vapour HPS bulb, with an arrow sowing where you?ll find that metal pellet, as long as you keep the bulbs pellet upright then you?ll be fine, not that these pellets fall out very often as its only happened two times from about 18 bulbs, over I?d say fifteen years, but it?s well annoying when it does happen.

Indoor Grow Lights | Get The Best Out Of Your Grow Lights

?Which indoor grow lights should you buy? well as makes and models change, and its not as if I buy every one, although I have owned a few, one of my favored reflectors is what?s known as a air cooled.

Plants interact with light whether from the sun or indoor grow lights in complicated ways. Since light is often the most limiting factor in hydroponic crop production, other than its own potential it pays for growers to learn about plant light interactions.

As we all no from are school biology days that plants convert light to energy, ?sugars? which is called photosynthesis, theirs two primary reactions that drives this process, which is

Chlorophyll A has an absorption peak at 440nm and again at 660nm although much smaller than the first, while Chlorophyll B have a peak 460nm and again at 670nm, the two compounds absorb mostly in the blue and red parts of the spectrum, the rest of the light spectrum is also used, but to much lesser degree, so what?s left is mainly reflected away, so it these peak, known as absorption peaks.
A 400 watt HID emits around 130 watts of light that?s in the photosynthetically active range, or PAR for short, meaning a large chunk of the output is not being used, but looks to us really bright.

Theirs three main ways to measure light, the first two, lumens and lux are really just a way to measure how much light falls on a given area, and measured at the peak at which we, yes you too, perceived light The white light we see is actually a mixture of wavelengths of various colours-all the way from violet (380 nm), indigo, blue, green, yellow, orange to red (700 nm). , Whereas PAR is a measurement of how much of the light is being absorbed, making PAR the only useful measurement to use for determining what are plants need to flourish.

? HOW BRIGHTS THE LIGHT OUTSIDE

Well in the height of summer ?feels so far away? the maximum amount of light that hits the earths surface is around 2,600 micromoles per square meter.

But luckily for use the saturation point for most sun loving plant is much lower, approximately 500 micromoles per square meter, and lower still for shade lovers like my hostas

The amount of light a plant receives, has a direct impact on its growth rate. Most plants tend to grow faster when available light increases, however their maximum growth rate is achieved at a substantially lower amount of sunlight than 2,000 micromoles. The point, at which a plant receives more light than they can utilize, is known as the Light Saturation Point. For most plants, the optimum level of PAR lighting is approximately 500 micromoles per square meter yet if these plants receive much over that, they can reach the point of light saturation. In some instances, plants have been observed growing slower when exposed to excess amounts of light, vs. growing in their optimal range. For example hostas are shade loving, I have mine in pots, as slugs really love them, so as an experiment I left one of the pots in direct sunlight for one season, and the affects were obvious For this reason, it is not advisable to supply your plants with more micromoles per meter, than what is optimal for their species

? Making the most out of your indoor grow lights

Which ever light your using in your grow room, its best to optimize your light output, it?s a fault that most indoor grower over estimate the size ? area? of what the light can cover, I?ve seen many illustrations in grow books that show a room, a large on, with a indoor grow lights in the center, with all the other bits and peaces that make up a growing room, all neatly laid out, there?s only one problem with this picture, and that is the LIGHT is left to defuse over the entire room, with only the reflector to direct light. For you to maximize the light you do have, your grow-room should not exceed the maximum sq foot or meter, for the grow bulb you?ve bought, a little under is better.

Bright Led Plant grow Light | For Indoor Growing

? High output led

LED plant grow light are becoming popular in battery operated devices, wheres for mains lighting is still playing catch up, however as the scramble for market dominance continues many variations and improvement are arising, when mains use and long on times are required, high power led required surface mount technology, because high outputs produce more heat, and required fine amp management and heat sinks to avoid over heating. High output leds have been round for only a few years, and are still very pricey too.

. So what?s available?LED Plant Grow Light

CreeThe XLamp XP-G LED is capable of 345 lumens at 105 lumens per watt when driven at 1 A, which is 46% brighter and 64% more efficient than the highest-performance XLamp XR-E LED at the same current. XLamp XP-G LEDs set the new standard for light output and efficacy in single-die LEDs

XLamp xp g led, capable of a whopping 345 lumens altogether and 105 per watt, this sets new output efficacy for a single led.

? Light is life.

Over the past 20 years, the world has seen tremendous advancements in the fields of computing, telecommunications, and biotechnology, but the same technology that Thomas Edison popularized in 1879 and is still in use today to bring us all the most essential tool we have...light! High output LEDs are changing the very nature of Led plant grow lights illumination.

Simple circuits are suitable for bench top testing and experimenting with high output LEDs, however to maintain maximum LED brightness and ensure long life, we recommend?.

? Current regulating driver

Use some form of current regulator drivers, transformer/driver, or other form of current regulating circuit. One driver can power one or more, high power LEDs with no additional circuitry or components.

. Z power

Z power led p7 single led is one of the brightest led at 900 lumen's from one led, 90 lumen's per watt.

. Luxeon

The LXHL-MRRC Royal Blue Luxeon, offers 48 lm at 700mA, the compact size makes it easy to arrange for tight spaces. Pictured here on a single mount, can equally be arranged on a PCB board.

Oh yeah heres a 1 watt high output led that fell out my cateye light, shh, that?s what the other half thinks, here im controlling both volts and current at work.

? So what?s new in high power LED plant grow light

In February 2010 Cree announces that there lab had past the 200 lumens per watt for white light high output led, this is a significant break though, the colour temperature of 4579 K, with the drive current of just 350mA.
